"Deal With It!"
The quote of the year belongs to my 7 year old son. Last night we were eating dinner and my wife had prepared pasta. My 10 year old daughter was eating the pasta when she realized the sauce was much too spicy for her taste. She proceeded to carry on stating that sauce was too spicy and after hearing a few minutes of this lamenting my son turns to her and says, “Deal with it!” My wife and I burst out into laughter because it was so funny coming for this sweet little 7 year old boy. My daughter just kind of made a face at him and I couldn’t lose the moment to hopefully teach my son something. I then looked at him and said, “that was interesting and I think we should use this on you (my son) when you are eating certain foods such as mashed potatoes.” He abhors mashed potatoes and equates Thanksgiving as the “meal from Hell”. My wife had him eat mashed potatoes either last year or two years ago at Thanksgiving where he proceeded to get sick and every since has sworn off on mashed potatoes.
My son is no dummy and as I was turning the tables on him with his own “deal with it” statement he quickly recanted saying, “Okay don’t deal with it,” to his sister. He did change his tune but it was hilarious hearing this comment from him in the first place. I am sure he is just mimicking my wife or me as we say this all the time in these situations but he does really pay attention. Kids do say the darndest things and by the way we didn’t make our daughter “deal with it” as we gave her some pasta without the very spicy sauce.
I had a great conversation with my father last night and it appears we are back on the weekly telephone call. I did write something that seemed to upset my father which caused these telephone calls to go on hiatus for a few weeks but I quickly apologized and hopefully all was forgiven. I do enjoy talking politics with my father because he has great insights and I realized I do get what I perceive as fair-mindedness from him. We spoke about the whole same sex marriage issue that appeared on the ballot out here in California as well in my father’s home state of Florida. In both states the measure opposing same sex marriage prevailed and we both just don’t understand why. I guess religious beliefs along with “traditional” beliefs have something to do with it but who really knows. In my father’s mind as well as my mind we wonder how this actually affects anyone not involved in the same sex marriage issue. I don’t believe it does in any way, shape or form.
The evening came to a close as I struggled with the project for my good friend and seemed to continue as I started my day. I don’t know what it was but I was just not clicking on all cylinders so I do hope my friend can find someone who will do a better job than me. After finalizing the project I did make my way to the gym where I seemed to labor through only 7 miles of running. My legs felt heavy and my breathing was much more pronounced than usual. It was one of those down training days that do happen thankfully not too often. I managed to get through the workout and the earphones seemed to be working out just fine. The earphones stayed secured to my ear for the entire run but I must be careful when I wipe my face with a towel since I jostled the earphones around a few times.
The workout was over and I made my way over to the office for a series of meetings. I was given a fairly large project by my boss that is outside of my marketing scope but well within in my administrative scope. I have been entrusted with some serious trade materials (nothing financial as I precluded by my parole) for this particular project. Hopefully I can focus much better on this project than on the project I performed for my good friend. The second meeting was a wonderful meeting of ideas. There was a reason I was sitting in that room during this particular meeting and I will follow this wherever it leads. This could be a great thing or it could be nothing. The answer will appear in due time and all I know is today was a great day sitting there listening to some really good businessmen do their thing.
The day was good and I forgot to mention that last night a dear friend in the program approached me to Secretary the “Speaker’s Meeting” starting in January. It has been awhile since I was a Secretary and this particular meeting meets every other Monday which does fit well into my schedule. I will have to arrange the speakers in advance and if there is anyone associated with GA or GamAnon that is interested in speaking please feel free to contact me at
paul.delvacchio@gmail.com
These meetings are little different from our regular GA meetings but are always enlightening since the speaker gets 30 minutes to tell their story or whatever is on their mind. I look forward to chairing the meeting and being of service since that is what the program is all about.
