Father/Daughter Softball Day
We had a family movie night yesterday evening. The “family” movie was “Get Smart” which may not be exactly the best “family” movie but our children were very interested in the movie and me being a big fan of “Max” from the television show I thought it wouldn’t be too inappropriate for the children. It wasn’t too inappropriate since it was rated PG-13 and I think the movie studios are actually allowed one “F-bomb” but the directors refrained from this language in the movie. As far as the movie went I was disappointed because it wasn’t very much like the original television show I remembered as a kid. It was entertaining to a point and the children did laugh at certain parts but overall I am very happy I didn’t go to a movie theater and pay full price. That is the beauty of Netflix and viewing the movies on DVD for a small fraction of the regular movie going price.
The evening was great and the day was great as well. These weekends are fantastic and now with the children off for the next three weeks I wonder what we are going to do. Yes, the children are off from school on their Winter Break until January 13th. Thankfully we will have a very welcomed visitor (my mom) in after the New Year to break some of that time up and I believe Grandma has some “day trips” planned that start with the letter “D” which will be wonderful. Anyhow yesterday was indeed a great day and today was an equally great day.
Today started out with our little boy running into our bed a little past his usual time and he is no longer a “little guy” and will soon be 8 years old. I can’t believe both of our children will be celebrating their birthdays in less than two months. Yes, my son will be 8 and my daughter will be 11; wow time does fly by so quickly and time this morning passed by exceptionally fast as well. After watching the CBS Sunday Morning Show my son and I took a bicycle ride to a nearby grocery store.
I am going to give this grocery store a plug; Fresh & Easy and it is billed as the neighborhood grocery store. The store opened a few months ago in a very nearby shopping center and due to the horrible economic climate they are the only ones in this shopping center. When I first visited Fresh & Easy I thought it was nothing but an oversized convenience store but it is certainly very convenient and their prices aren’t that bad. Getting in and out is very easy and it does save on making a trek to the other grocery stores. Additionally they also carry vegetarian friendly food which is always a benefit in my eyes.
The quick bicycle ride concluded as we carried what we needed home from the store. Once I arrived home the breakfast preparation commenced. Yes, it was another Sunday breakfast of the protein pancakes for everyone. Instead of just lounging around I decided to convince my daughter to go to the softball field where her teammates were having an impromptu practice. I knew I had to convince her because my daughter was in full “vacation” mode not really wanting to do much of anything. I did convince her and we were off to the softball field.
At least for today winter seemed to take a break with the temperature approaching 70 degrees; it was a good day to be at the softball field. We met up with another teammate along with a girl from another team. The next three hours the six of us (parents of the girls) had a blast on the softball field. The girls took batting practice and my daughter had the opportunity to practice her pitching. My daughter is a very good softball player and held her own against two very good players. She was a little rusty with her throwing but it made for good fun. The day was wonderful and it was a great father—daughter day on the softball field.
We returned home where I would have enough time to shower and relax a bit before the Sunday evening GA meeting. I made my way to the meeting and I returned back to my normal meeting schedule. The meeting went very well and yes, the “usual suspects” were in attendance which makes the meeting extra special. There was a new member in attendance and I do believe this disease of mine is insidious and very difficult to kick especially when there isn’t any outside support. Thankfully in my case I continue to have tremendous support inside and outside of the program and I don’t know what it would be like without this support and I am eternally grateful. I do hope this new member does come back for the support needed to battle this addiction because I know this continues to save my life each and everyday.
