Eight on the 8th
No matter what I have gone through I still seem to hear most everything during the wee hours of the morning; yes, I am a very light sleeper and last night the little voices coming from the lounge did wake me up. It was apparent that the little voices didn’t go to sleep and were having such a good time chatting. I was faced with a bit of a dilemma; should I go out there and demand them to go to sleep or should I remain silent. I opted for remaining silent and after 30 minutes the little voices were silent but my mind was anything but. I didn’t fall back to sleep for another hour and I had many things going through my mind. I wasn’t thinking about anything important and one of those unimportant items had to do with Facebook. It seems one of the biggest messages going around on Facebook is the “25 Things about Me”. There are rules and once you have been “tagged” you are supposed to create this list of 25 things about yourself.
I was indeed tagged but haven’t submitted my list. I have read a few of my “friends” lists and it is very interesting. One of those lists came from my 18 year old niece and it was such a nice list. I still have a hard time believing she is 18 years old already and will be attending college in the fall. That notwithstanding as I read the list I realized what a great person she has turned out to be. This is a huge credit to my sister and brother-in-law who are wonderful parents. I can only hope that my daughter and son turn out like their cousin. Anyhow I may or may not complete this list in the coming days and if I do I will post it here as well.
This morning would mark my son’s 8th birthday. He spent the night at a friend’s house because it made much more sense to have him away from the 7 girls who spent the evening. I did feel a little strange not having my son wake up in our house for his birthday but I know this did faze him at all but I made a deal with him that I would pick him up early this morning and the two of us would go to breakfast. I was up early and so were those little voices and I guess there wasn’t a lot of sleeping going on during the “sleep-over”. I was out the door and made my way over to our dear friends’ house where my son spent the evening.
We were on our way to a “boys” only breakfast for my son’s birthday. I asked my son where he wanted to go and he selected Denny’s. I think this was a direct result of the Super Bowl commercial where Denny’s invited the country for a free breakfast last Tuesday. We didn’t make the free breakfast but this apparently stuck with my son so we were headed over to Denny’s. Strangely enough this was the first time we were in Denny’s and I have to say my son and I were the youngest (by far!) patrons in the establishment. This was okay with both of us and my son and I had a wonderful breakfast. We talked and it was great father and son bonding time. Wow it was so cool to be with my son on his actual birthday and much like the fact that my niece is now 18 it is amazing how fast the last 8 years have passed in my son’s life. It does seem just like yesterday that we were bringing him home from the hospital in Las Vegas and now here we were having a boy’s breakfast.
Breakfast was over and we returned home where the “sleep-over” was still going on. The noise level had diminished from last evening and it appeared most of the girls were a bit tired. My son did interact with the girls and this seemed to liven things up but the sleep-over had come to an end as the moms were picking up the girls. That would mark the end of birthday party number one and in a few hours birthday party number two would commence. Yes, birthday party number two was under way as my wife and son made their way to the bowling alley. I was a few minutes behind because I had to pick up the pizzas for the party.
We decided to go with the “no frills” bowling party because the “frills” bowling party was very expensive. Instead of going with the big package we went with a coupon and decided to provide our own food at half the cost. This is why I was behind and we did bring the pizzas into the bowling alley for the party. When I arrived the bowling session was in full force and the six boys were having a wonderful time. This party worked out great because boys of this age need something to do and being away from the house seemed like the appropriate venue. Yes, once again everything went very well and with my daughter just about falling asleep I decided to depart a few minutes earlier to take her home. It was a very good party and with that the second party had ended and my wife did a tremendous job throwing 2 parties in less than 24 hours; wow she is indeed amazing!!
